SuperClear® Image Enhancement Technology, for consistent Colour from all angles

Currently, there are several wide viewing angle panels from different panel makers, including, IPS, VA, PLS, and ADS panels, which extend conventional displays (TN panels) from 170/160 to 178/178 degrees. Since these panels already offer wider viewing angles, the most crucial topic is how to deliver more consistent brightness, Colour quality and detail from each section of the screen.

Wide Viewing Angle Panels on the market

IPS (In-Plane Switching) - The liquid crystals in the cells always lie along the same plane and are always parallel to the panel's plane due to its transverse electric field. When voltage is applied to a cell, the crystals of that cell all rotate by 90 degrees.

PLS (Plane-to-Line Switching) – Here, the liquid crystals also always lie along the same plane, similar to IPS displays. PLS is different from IPS because PLS uses a longitudinal electric field and a transverse electric field to drive parallel liquid crystal movement.

VA (Vertical Alignment) – For this type of display, the liquid crystals all lie vertically when voltage is off, and a longitudinal electric field is adopted to drive liquid crystal movement. When the voltage is on, the liquid crystals make a 90-degree vertical turn.

ADS (Advanced PLS) – ADS panel infrastructure is the same as PLS.

Better colour consistency and precision for wide-angle panels

SuperClear® technology is about superior colour consistency. This colour consistency produces images with uniform, original colours from the widest range of angles for better quality viewing than competing screen technologies. And with 178/178-degree wide-viewing angles, there are no differences in colour and brightness between center and side points.

SuperClear® technology dominates other screen specifications by showing more colours, more consistently, and with uniform colour temperatures from any angle – vertical, diagonal or horizontal. Because it precisely displays these colours from any viewing angle, you can also adjust our fully ergonomic monitors to a more comfortable angle and still enjoy clear and comfortable viewing.

Furthermore, SuperClear® displays have an average contrast ratio of 220 when viewed from a 60-degree viewing angle – almost 10 times higher than conventional displays – ensuring clearer and more consistent colours with no washed-out bright whites. Also, each section of the screen maintains the same colour, brightness and contrast, offering uniform colour reproduction across the screen.

Better colour performance and range for superior accuracy

With SuperClear® image enhancement technology, ViewSonic® displays are able to render more colours to provide richer colour space. As seen in the figure below, SuperClear® increases the red and green colour spaces, which results in redder reds and greener greens, while also expanding the pink and cyan colour spaces.

SuperClear® displays offer a 10% overall improvement in the range of colours that you see. Conventional displays can only show 68%-72% NTSC colour gamut, while our SuperClear® displays present nearly 77%-80% NTSC (CIE1931) colour space. For example, our VX2456Sml display is around 78% of the NTSC(CIE1931) colour space.

Greater viewer eye comfort with no colour shift for motion pictures

Great for high-speed gaming and action-packed movies, SuperClear® image enhancement technology enhances the grey-to-grey response times of wide angle viewing panels to optimise imagery in movies and fast-paced games.

Grey-to-Grey response times make for greater eye comfort because they level out black-to-white-to-black response times, putting less strain on the viewer's eyes. Since the vast majority of on-screen web pages, documents, on-line games and videos are composed of middle greys, this improvement in liquid crystal movement makes a big difference.

In addition to offering a wider colour gamut and enhanced grey-to-grey response times, our viewer-friendly SuperClear displays also exhibit smaller dynamic colour shifts than other displays. Combined, these specifications offer viewers greater eye comfort, so that they can watch fast-moving media without seeing blurred images that cause sore eyes.

Better sharpness and legibility for bright and contrasting colours

SuperClear® have improved legibility and colour differentiation of images on-screen by incorporating improved brightness and colour uniformity, adaptive peaking for sharper edges, and the elimination of pixel cross-talk.

Brightness and colour uniformity: We ensure proper luminance uniformity by calibrating each one of our screens, section by section. We do this by using preset scalar uniformity engines that multiply the original 81 screen vectors to 4096 vectors. The scalar then balances the brightness and colour uniformity of this larger number of vectors to offer superior uniformity from one part of the screen to the other.

Adaptive peaking for sharper edges and crisper images: We introduce 'adaptive peaking' to our lines of SuperClear® displays to bring greater sharpness to images on-screen. We accomplish this by using scalar presets to 'pull up' the level of white displayed on-screen to create harder edges and improved legibility. These preset levels enhance screen contrast and keep side-by-side bright and dark colours from looking grey or muddled.

Cross-talk elimination: On a pixel level, as current goes through the screen the emission of light from one pixel can jump over to another. This can influence the uniformity of pixels and may leave colours looking muddled. To eliminate cross-talk, we use de-ringing technology to reverse the tendency of greys appearing. This balances out the effect of pixel peaking, and leaves images looking more crisp and legible.
